Message from Board President Susan Sweeney
It is with mixed emotions that I share with you an upcoming change at Family Promise of Northern New Castle County. Our beloved Executive Director, Carolyn Gordon, has accepted a larger role in Family Promise as Northeast Regional Director. In this new role, Carolyn will mentor and support affiliated networks in ten states and will use her leadership talent and passion to help those experiencing homelessness with a much broader reach. The FPNNCC Board and I congratulate her on this new opportunity. The good news for us is that FPNNCC is part of this affiliate group so she will still have a connection to us!
Carolyn has done a superb job building relationships and the structure of FPNNCC leveraging the talent and generosity of our community, our congregations and the 2,000+ volunteers that help so many families in our area. The addition of our new model—The Hospitality Center—is very much the result of Carolyn’s work and passion to do more. We are going to miss Carolyn in our day to day work and are happy that she is still part of Family Promise. She has built a solid, talented team and they will carry on as we search for a new Executive Director to lead the team.
The Board is working with Carolyn on timing and next steps during this transition and we will continue to communicate as appropriate as we work through the details.
Thank you for your continued support. If you have questions or concerns during this transitional period, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
With Warm Regards,
FPNNC Board President
Message from Executive Director Carolyn Gordon
For over 7 years I have had the world’s greatest job. I have worked with the best Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and supporters. When I began as the Executive Director of Family Promise NNCC, we only operated the rotational hospitality network, had 17 congregations involved and at most, could serve 35 families in one year.
Now, we operate two shelter sites and have two community-based programs as well. Over 50 congregations are involved and those 2,000 volunteers are ending homelessness for hundreds of families annually. I am humbled and honored to have been part of such a journey. Seeing the joy on parents’ faces when they get approved for housing, playing basketball with children in the driveway at the day center, training volunteers and guest preaching about our effective model, securing a grant to launch an innovative program…these are just some of the memories I will miss.
I do look forward to taking my experience and our success to affiliates in the Northeast Region as the Regional Director with National Family Promise. I am blessed to have served this organization and I thank you for your partnership in preventing and ending homelessness. I look forward to following all the greatness that will continue here in Northern New Castle County!
With sincerest gratitude,
