Pathway to Prevention
Our Pathway to Prevention program provides prevention services to families with children within our community at risk of experiencing homelessness.

Family Promise of Northern New Castle County provides prevention services to families with children within our community at risk of experiencing homelessness. Services will be provided for families with children that are at imminent risk of experiencing homelessness.
Family Promise will intervene to provide short term case management, and minimal, one-time financial assistance to stabilize families within their current housing. Stabilizing families in their current home is a quick, effective intervention that prevents a situation of homelessness, and the various traumas associated with experiencing homelessness altogether.

Our Prevention services are designed for families that have income and are generally able to meet their monthly expenses. Prevention services will be administered in the event of a crisis that places the family at imminent risk of experiencing homelessness. Family Promise’s prevention services will assist families through their crisis by providing financial support, and subsequently, a return to normalcy and stability.

In our Pathway to Diversion, we work collaboratively with other providers to identify families who are experiencing homelessness or are imminently (i.e., within days) at risk of becoming homeless. With our Pathway to Diversion, we prevent families who are experiencing homelessness from entering the shelter system by:
-
Helping them navigate personal resources they have for safe temporary housing — i.e., divert them from the shelter system to someplace safe and secure, albeit temporary, while we work with them on securing housing.
-
Helping them secure permanent housing of their own.
-
Leveraging existing resources in our community to provide an overall effective solution for families that help them resolve their housing crisis and prevent them from entering the shelter system.

This is a light touch program, and generally assists families who only require a small amount of help to stabilize their situation.
